Lukas Zerbst

Lukas Zerbst creates spatial interventions and site-specific installations in institutional or public space. He alters the found physical structure, manipulates electrical components, or artistically intervenes in digital content, for example through live camera performances.

Zerbst sees architecture as an artificial framework, mostly created by purpose, in which everyday life takes place. On the one hand, architecture constitutes the self-assurance with which people move through spaces. On the other hand, it dictates the movements within this framework. Zerbst unmasks such ambivalent moments in an artistic way. Technologies that are reflected in architecture and everyday objects and seem fully implemented in our lives are turned against themselves by Zerbst.

He is a master student of Jenny Kropp (FORT) and Jean-François Guiton. In 2020, Zerbst was at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris thanks to the BBK-Bremen. His awards also include the Prize of the Kunstverein Hannover, the GWK-Förderpreis 2018 and the Bremer Förderpreis. In 2018, he was nominated for the ArtePrize by the Delfina Foundation in London. His projects have been supported by the Goethe-Institut, DAAD, Institut français and Kauno menininkų namai, among others.

Zerbst lives and works in Bremen, Hannover and Liechtenstein.
